The UK’s love affair with foreign holidays shows no sign of slowing down, as a new study shows that 46 per cent of Brits plan to travel abroad just as much or even more often than they did five years ago.

More than one-in-three are planning a getaway in the next three months, according to the research from Tesco Travel Money, rising to 42 per cent among 18-24 year olds.

Younger travellers still spend less on their breaks, with an average cost of £1,062 compared to an overall average of £1,527 per person. For older holidaymakers prices were even higher, with 55-64 year-olds spending as much as £1,718 on average.

And traditional types of getaway have retained their popularity. Just over a tenth of Brits were planning a short European city break, but after a miserable winter it might not be surprising that four out of ten were planning hot and sunny beach holidays.
